Shattered Silence: Men of the Texas Rangers Series #2 by Margaret Daley

Illegal aliens are being targeted by a serial killer.  The first victim was a pregnant Hispanic woman.  Maria a young child was a witness to this but the killer at the time did not know the child was in the abandoned house.  Liliana Rodriguez, a police officer and Cody Jackson a Texas Ranger band together to try to solve this mystery.  Each have their own set of problems.  Cody Jackson is raising his son after his ex-wife died.  He's trying to undo all the damage that his bigoted ex wife's husband inflicted on his son.  Liliana has her own set of problems.  She grew up in an abusive household.  Her mother never would leave the abusive husband.  Liliana's sister Eleana is repeating the same cycle were her own marriage to an abusive man.

To be honest I did not like this book as much as I liked the first book in the series.  Too much police work and at times I got confused at all the suspects in the story. I think the chemistry between Liliana and Cody was a bit lacking but that's just my opinion.  I think the storyline of the abuse that went on in her sister's marriage was written well.  I got really frustrated with the sister for putting up with her abusive marriage.  I hope the message gets across to the reader that there are options.  You don't have to stay in an abusive relationship.  There are people and services to help you.  I hope the message gets across to break the cycle.

This book is due to be released in September 2012.  Thanks for Netgalley and Abingdon Press for providing me with this ebook to review.

Tidewater Inn by Colleen Coble

Libby thought she was all alone in the world. Both her parents were deceased. Her mother had died a year before and her father has died when she was five; at least that was what was told by her mother. All this changed when she got a call from Nicole, her business partner. While on a business trip Nicole had discovered that Libby’s father had actually died only a month before and that he had left Libby the Tidewater Inn in his will. Tidewater Inn was a beautiful historic building that was badly in near of repair. Libby also learned that her father had remarried and that she had two half siblings. Nicole had hooked up a cam camera so Libby could see everything and also see her half sister but before her eyes she witnessed that Nicole was abducted by two strange men. Alarmed she immediately took a trip to Hope Island to try to find her friend and business partner and to also find out about the will and her father. The local authorities did not believe her that her friend was abducted. They thought she had something to do with Nicole going missing and nothing would convince them otherwise. While there she met Alec who worked for the coast guard and he eventually believed her. She also met her siblings who were very hostile to her in the beginning, particularly the sister.
I really liked the has the mystery was solved in the story. Really like it that some favorite characters from the Rock Harbor series were brought in to help solved the mystery. It was so good to see Bree and her famous search and rescue dog Samson back in action. I also liked how Libby had to answer to the Holy Spirit on the right thing to do concerning her siblings. Her head told her one thing but the Holy Spirit told her another. The theme was WWJD.(What would Jesus do).

Looking forward to reading more books in this series. I hope the next one focuses on Vanessa, the sister.

A Plain Death by Amanda Flower

I am so excited to discover Amanda Flower. Mystery/suspense is my favorite genre to read. I am always trying out new authors. Some I like and some not so much. I am so glad I tried out Amanda Flowers. I enjoyed this story. I loved the Troyer family and really loved Grandpa Zook. Who wouldn't love to have a grandpa like him? I loved the way the mystery unfolded. Chloe Humphrey is new in town with a job as a computer technology expert at the local college. Chloe is alone in the world. Her father has remarried to a stepmother who is hostile to her. Her foster family that she adores has moved to Italy. On her way to her new job she picks up an Amish girl who is being harassed by some thugs in a green pickup truck. Turns out the Amish girl Becky Troyer has decided to leave home because she feels she cannot pursue her love of art if she stays. Through Becky Chloe is introduced to Becky's handsome brother Timothy who leave the Amish some time before. Timothy is protective of his sister and wants her to return home but his sister is adamant on staying. Chloe reluctantly allows Becky to stay with her for the time being. One day Becky borrows Chloe's car and is involved in an accident which unfortunately kills Bishop Glick. After some investigation it is learned that the brakes were cut on the vehicle. Chloe and Timothy investigate to try to solve this mystery.

In this book you will love some of the characters like members of the Troyer family and despise others like the thugs in the green truck, one of Chloe's co-workers and even some of the Amish people. It's a real page turner to see who is behind this mystery. I can't wait until the next book is released in February 2013,A Plain Scandal: An Appleseed Creek Mystery

Material Witness

This book is the third in the Sheshewana mystery series and by far the best! One of Callie's competitor's has been murdered outside her quilt shop window. Aaron is a young Amish lad bound to a wheelchair is the only witness. This youngster is the child of one of Callie's dearest Amish friends. Pretty soon it becomes obvious that Callie was the intended victim instead of the older lady when Callie starts receiving threatening phone calls. She nicknames him The Creeper. Not only is her life at stake but the life of Aaron. Callie must take action soon to protect the ones she loves but how can the killer be found in the most busy time of the year? Their town is holding it's annual crafts fair and there are thousands of strangers in town but is it a stranger or it is someone in the community? All I can say is that you need to read this. I can't say much more or I will spoil the story for you. I hope the author plans to write more suspense stories.

This book will be released September 4, 2012. Thanks to Netgalley and Zondervan for providing me with this ebook to review.

To Write A Wrong

Riley Baxter’s parents were killed several years  by Simon Lancaster as a result of his driving while drunk.  He was sent to Louisiana’s Angola prison and is now up for parole.  He claims he is a changed man. He has found God but  Riley has doubts.  She thinks he is still a danger to society and voices her opinion at the parole hearing.  While she is there she meets a family of a man who is serving a prison sentence for a robbery and murder.  His family feels that he is innocent.  The daughter touches Riley’s heart so she decided to write a series of articles.  She feels this is the story that will jumpstart her career as a news reporter.  Her boss says she needs to write one good story to keep her job.  She aspires to be the next Diane Sawyer.  As she gets to know the family more she believes in this man’s innocence but someone but someone wants her dead.  She had had a couple of attempts on her life.  While in Louisiana she stays with Hayden Simpson's mother, Ardy.  We were introduced to the Simpsons in the first book.  Hayden, the local police commissioner tries to help her but he has problems of his own with a rebellious sister and a string of unsolved murders.  Are these murders connected to the innocent man in jail?  You will have to read the story to see how it all comes together.

I enjoyed the novel but it did not get really suspenseful until I was about 100 pages into the novel.  I was totally taken by surprise as to who was the man who made attempts on Riley's life and the man responsible for the murders.  Looking back I think there may have been some clues that I overlooked.  I am looking forward to the next book that comes out in 2013 that will focus on the oldest Baxter sibling, Maddie.

I received this book compliments of B&H Publishing and Netgalley.  I was not compensated for this book.  I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
